Hello? Is this thing on?
As every cool person knows (sorry if you’re not cool), I am a niche internet microcelebrity, with a Twitter account avidly followed by the most handsome and most intelligent people on the planet (you can follow me here).
For years—years!—my fans have been clamoring for me to write more long-form content on the internet.
And, while Twitter remains my favorite form, it’s true that I do sometimes feel like writing longer formats. Hence, this Substack.
I’ve decided to call this Substack Accelerationist because my sense is that the most important trends happening in the West today are two (potential) accelerations: the mutual radicalization of left and right in politics; and (re-)acceleration in technological progress and the West’s ability to build new and important and great things.
What will I write about on here? Well, frankly, whatever strikes my fancy, while bearing in mind feedback from you, dear reader. I will try to do 2-3 posts a week, but this may vary. I can forecast a focus on politics and tech, but I reserve the right to write about anything else. I want to do book reviews. I do have ideas for longer “series”, such as, e.g., important French writers that I think an English language audience would want to know about, such as Michel Houellebecq, Jean Raspail, or Renaud Camus. I also hope for this place to be interactive and to be a place where I can create a kind of “community” of like-minded people. Hopefully I can be fed by your ideas.
I’m somebody who still remembers and misses the old blogosphere of the 2000s, when a group of people from all backgrounds would write informally about whatever struck their fancy and whatever was in the news and riff of each other. If there’s any value in Substack, apart from allowing some to make a living, it’s in resurrecting that spirit, and it’s in that spirit that I intend to write.
How much is this going to cost me? Well, it will probably cost me my soul, but to you, for now, nothing. As I say, this is an experimental space at the moment. If and when the audience gets big enough, I may consider paid options.
As you can tell this is still very experimental, but I hope that with your feedback this can become a place to publish some interesting #content.
Thank you for your attention.
Not sure how I missed this announcement. Fantastic news
